Download, Install & Setup

I registered, but did not get my registration key by email?

Please make sure that your junk email processing system has not marked email from registrar@mediabee.com as junk. Check in your junk email folder.

Where can I download the application?

Please download it from the link on this page.

How do I install the application?

You can install the application by opening the .exe file from the link above.

How do I uninstall the application?

You can uninstall the application by selecting the Uninstall menu item from the Mediabee Program Menu.

What are the system requirements for your application?

You will find system requirements on this page.

Can I make this application my Windows desktop? How?

Yes. This application can run in Windows XP's active desktop mode. Although this has been tested and known to work, we urge you to exercise caution, because the application will need to use the full screen when it is installed as the active desktop.

The Mediabee application will hide your desktop icons when installed as the active desktop. To fire up programs that you may otherwise have used a desktop icon for, you will have to use the Start Menu instead. (You may feel it's time to unclutter your desktop anyway!) If you are comfortable with this, proceed as follows.

Find the SetActiveDesktop shortcut in the [installed-dir]/utils folder and double-click on it.

I made the application my Active Desktop, but I changed my mind. How do I regain my old desktop?

Find the RemoveActiveDesktop shortcut in the [installed-dir]/utils folder and double-click on it. This will bring back your old desktop, along with any icons that may have been on it. If you want the old desktop, but not the icons, you can double-click on the HideIcons shortcut in [installed-dir]/utils folder.

I chose to have the application run at startup, but now I changed my mind. What do I do?

Find the C:\Documents and Settings\[User]\Start Menu\Programs\Startup folder on your system and delete the Mediabee shortcut from there.

I chose not to have the application run at startup, but now I changed my mind. What do I do?

Find the C:\Documents and Settings\[User]\Start Menu\Programs\Startup folder on your system and create the Mediabee shortcut. If your [installed-dir] is "C:\Program Files\Mediabee\" then your shortcut target should be "C:\Program Files\Mediabee\src\ui\MBShell.exe" "C:\Program Files\Mediabee\src\ui\initPage.html". Don't forget the quotation marks, or it won't work.

The application won't install or run on my system?

We are sorry to hear that. Did you check our system requirements ? If your system complies with the requirements and you still cannot install the application, please email support@mediabee.com with the following details:

  • System type, operating system, processor speed, amount of memory, amount of free disk space
  • The details on your registration screen
  • A short description of your experience with the application or installation and the problem you are seeing.

We will only use the information for assistance with your problem.

Do I need to register the application to use it?

We recommend that you register before using the application. You can use the application without registering, but you will not be able to use some of the features. For example, you won't be able to publish calendars or access your information over the web or through your phone. In fact, you won't be able to take advantage of most advanced features of our application without registration.

I can't use the application anymore. Help!

The application is currently in beta, and as much as we'd like to avoid situations such as this, we're sorry it happened. There are some steps you can take to recover your data:

  1. Close the application by clicking on the X button in the top right hand corner of the application. Then restart the application. If the error persists, proceed to next step.
  2. Close the application. Open a command prompt and type in net stop mediabee. This could take a minute or two. When the command completes, type in net start mediabee. Then restart the application. If the error persists, proceed to the next step.
  3. Make a backup copy of your application database. This is a file called mediabeedb.fs located in your /src/data folder. The application, if kept running as it should be, performs a nightly backup of the data. This file is called mediabeedb.fs.old in the same folder. In the command window, type in net stop mediabee. Copy mediabeedb.fs.old to mediabeedb.fs, overwriting it. (You will lose all data entered between the previous night at midnight and the current time.) In te command window, type in net start mediabee. Then restart the application. If the error persists, proceed to the next step.
  4. At this point, you will need to send us your data for resolution. We respect your privacy and will only use the information for troubleshooting. If you're not comfortable doing this, please accept our apologies and reinstall the application.
